Free leads first: how Colorado contractors earn calls before paying for ads

Paid platforms and lead services can be useful tools. But the calls that cost nothing extra each month come from things you own: your website, your Google profile, your reviews, and your content. Build those first, then add paid options on top when you want more volume.

1. Your website does the selling

Your website is the one place you fully control. Give every main service its own page, show real job photos, list the towns you serve, and put your phone number at the top of every page.

A fast, clear website also helps every other channel — Google, AI tools, and social media all send people back to it.

2. Local SEO brings steady searches

Homeowners search things like "concrete patio Castle Rock" or "furnace repair Monument." Pages that answer those searches, in plain language, keep bringing in calls month after month without a per-click cost.

3. Google Maps is the front door

Most local calls come from the Google Maps box. Choose the right main category, add every service, post photos often, and reply to every review. It is free and it is often the biggest source of calls.

4. Show up in AI answers

More homeowners now ask ChatGPT, Google's AI answers, or Copilot who to hire. These tools lean on clear websites, consistent business details, and reviews. Simple FAQ sections and honest service descriptions help them recommend you.

5. Social media builds trust

Short videos and before-and-after photos on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube show neighbors your real work. Post finished jobs from the towns you serve, and link back to your website.

6. Then add paid platforms

Once these free sources are working, paid options — search ads, Local Services Ads, or lead services — can add volume during busy seasons. Because your website and reviews are already strong, every paid click works harder.
