WordPress website designer in Colorado: when WordPress makes sense

WordPress runs a huge share of the web, and plenty of Colorado businesses search for a WordPress designer by name. Sometimes that's the right call. Sometimes it's a habit that costs you speed, security, and money. Here's the honest breakdown.

When WordPress is the right choice

WordPress earns its keep in a few situations: you already have a WordPress site with years of content and rankings, you need a specific plugin (a particular booking system, a membership area), or your team already knows the editor and wants to keep it. In those cases a good WordPress designer is worth hiring — the key word being designer, not “theme installer.”

When it isn't

If you're a plumber, dentist, or roofer who needs a fast site that ranks and generates calls, WordPress is often more machine than you need. The typical problems we see on Colorado WordPress sites we take over:

  • Plugin soup. 25+ plugins, half abandoned, each one a security hole and a speed tax.
  • Slow load times. Page builders stack code on code. Google measures this and ranks faster competitors above you.
  • Constant maintenance. Updates break things. Someone has to babysit it — usually you, at the worst possible time.
  • Hacking. WordPress is the most-attacked platform on the web precisely because it's the most common.

What a good WordPress designer actually does

If you do go WordPress, a real designer builds a custom theme (or lightly extends a solid starter), keeps plugins under a dozen, sets up caching and backups, and hands you a site you own outright. If a proposal is mostly a list of premium plugins you'll pay for forever, that's a warning sign. Our custom vs. DIY platforms guide covers the tradeoffs in more detail.

What it should cost

Honest Colorado pricing for a small business site — WordPress or otherwise: $1,850 for a focused 4-page site, $2,750 for a 10-page site with foundation SEO, $5,950 for up to 50 pages built to rank service-by-city. All include a year of hosting, SSL, and a traffic dashboard. See the full breakdown on our pricing page.
